Y5: Dictionary, Star of the Week and the Sunderland project

Today we practised our dictionary skills. We looked up gifts we would like to receive, and we were surprised at the answers: pigs, sharks and plastic bags!

We recorded the Star of the Week movie, and watched the one our Spanish friends sent us.

We started to learn a Christmas song, and thought of some actions to go with the words:

-snow falling

-showing our hearts

- happy faces , arms spread out

-party moves

- bells ringing

- dancing and "jumping with hands

The Spanish words will be here, soon!

We will sing it together with a Y5 class from Sunderland. How exciting!

And this is our starter game for next week, made by Amelia and Sam. They used the Make Dice Light iPad app. Thank you!

Y6: a surprise lesson

We had a surprise lesson today, we were supposed to meet on Thursday but plans change all the time!:-)
We had no toys but we could draw them in the air and guess!
We practised expressing opinions, big numbers, sentences from our role play and sang the alphabet song.
We recorded a video to our eTwinning friends in Spain, and Eliza thought of a good game to finish the lesson with.

Y6: big numbers, alphabet, role plays

Today we sang two songs: the alphabet one and the big numbers one.

We checked words in the dictionary and tested each other on big numbers.

We presented some of our shopping role plays. Great work!

We are sending some Halloween decorations and conkers greetings to Spain! Some are in English, some are in Spanish and a few are in Spanglish:-)

Jonathan has brought a list of Spanish football teams in, excellent!!!!

We watched a video about the history of the Spanish language.

Y6 - role plays and big numbers

Today we had a very busy lesson. First we  sang the numbers up to 100 with our silly song.
Then we played "Splat" with real euros and a peso note from Chile, while practising the question ¿Cuánto cuesta?.
We guessed the prices of some gift shop items and will challenge our friends in Grangetown Primary School to do the same!
We presented our shopping role plays and recorded them. We even had a clapper board, like in the real movies!

We were very sad to hear that one of our classmate's dog is too poorly and will be put to sleep today. Hope our  ¡Ánimo! messages will cheer him up a little bit! :-)

We finished with the alphabet song, and the best singer was.... everybody in Year 6!

And here is the video I promised, we watched it last year!

Y6 - Shopping

This half term we will go shopping: today we have learnt the names of gifts we would like to give or receive: la muñeca (doll), el helicóptero (helicopter), el peluche (teddy bear), la cámara (camera). We gave our opinions with Me gusta/Me encanta/No me gusta/No me gusta nada....

We had a look at the dictionaries that the school had received yesterday and found out about the two parts they had: Spanish/English and English/Spanish. The words are in alphabetical order , we listened to the letters song to get used the Spanish alphabet and we joined in, as well. We looked up words in our dictionaries and had fun putting them on our heads with the pages open when we had found the right word.

We started to write postcards for the European Day of Languages: with our partners we thought about why it is good to learn a language, we wrote our messages down and we will finish and send them to different schools in Europe next week. This project is on the eTwinning website, we participated in one last year, too.

We picked a volunteer to be the Spanish leader for the 5 A DAY SPANISH. Good luck!
