Y6: a surprise lesson

We had a surprise lesson today, we were supposed to meet on Thursday but plans change all the time!:-)
We had no toys but we could draw them in the air and guess!
We practised expressing opinions, big numbers, sentences from our role play and sang the alphabet song.
We recorded a video to our eTwinning friends in Spain, and Eliza thought of a good game to finish the lesson with.

Y4: Body words, sentences and Halloween cards

Today was the last day of our "body" topic.

We sang the "Cabeza, hombros, piernas, pies" song and did the actions.

We remembered our grammar rules:

We looked at our monsters and corrected our mistakes in our Spanish books.

We wrote Halloween cards to our Spanish penpals in Valladolid, and while we were writing it, we had to make SCARY faces and a photo was taken of everybody. These will be glued on the cards! Let's see who gets the "scariest face" prize from our Spanish friends!

Finally, we thought about what we have learnt this half term and completed some sentences about it.

Y6: big numbers, alphabet, role plays

Today we sang two songs: the alphabet one and the big numbers one.

We checked words in the dictionary and tested each other on big numbers.

We presented some of our shopping role plays. Great work!

We are sending some Halloween decorations and conkers greetings to Spain! Some are in English, some are in Spanish and a few are in Spanglish:-)

Jonathan has brought a list of Spanish football teams in, excellent!!!!

We watched a video about the history of the Spanish language.

Y5 - postcards

Today we made postcards in Spanish. Lily.

We sang a song today. Tom

On the postcards we chose what to write. Amelia

Our song:

We used real Spanish leaflets and postcards to find a place where we want to go to.

Next week we will read our cards out in front of the class. Great work!!!

Y4 - Sentences: No, S, Y

Today we have finished describing our monsters, keeping in mind that:
no comes before the verb
s is needed when we talk about more than 1 thing
y means and.

Those who finished early made a comic book page with the ComicBook ipad app.

The leaf monsters display in the classroom has been rearranged, watch this space for the photo.

Don't forget to bring second hand books in for our penpals, the deadline is next week! Gracias.

Y3 - Ask and answer questions

Today we practised asking and answering questions. Our detectives had to ask questions and find the hidden items in the classroom (a potato, a tomato, a chocolate, a pig and a horse- they all have to do  something with Columbus:-). These were the questions:

We had fun making a comic book page with the ComicBook ipad app.

We went nuts about numbers, we had to say in Spanish what number our partner made us.

Here are the entries for the ñ design contest, they are all brilliant! It will be hard to choose the winner!

Y5 - Prepositions,postcards and numbers

Today we practised our travel sentences. We played "Pass the Parcel", and whenever the DJ stopped the music, we had to make sentences with two cards: a day one and a flag one.

El jueves voy a Ecuador.
El sábado voy a Argentina.
El domingo voy a Paraguay.
El viernes voy a México.

We sang our song "Este puente..."

We read a postcard in Spanish, next week we will write one!

We went nuts about numbers: we had to write numbers with hazelnuts and challenge our partners to say them in Spanish. Excellent work!

We talked about Columbus Day, and watched a video about the history of the Spanish language.

Next week we will write postcards, hope you will enjoy looking through the leaflets, postcards and travel magazines I by the Spanish display!

Y6 - role plays and big numbers

Today we had a very busy lesson. First we  sang the numbers up to 100 with our silly song.
Then we played "Splat" with real euros and a peso note from Chile, while practising the question ¿Cuánto cuesta?.
We guessed the prices of some gift shop items and will challenge our friends in Grangetown Primary School to do the same!
We presented our shopping role plays and recorded them. We even had a clapper board, like in the real movies!

We were very sad to hear that one of our classmate's dog is too poorly and will be put to sleep today. Hope our  ¡Ánimo! messages will cheer him up a little bit! :-)

We finished with the alphabet song, and the best singer was.... everybody in Year 6!

And here is the video I promised, we watched it last year!

Y4: Leaf monsters

Today we have practised our monster describing sentences:
NO: we need no for negative sentences, it always comes before the verb in Spanish.
S: we need to use s when we talk about more than one thing, just like in English!
Y: we need the connective "y" to join parts of the sentence together. It means and.
After describing our class monster, we were given leaves, pipe cleaners, glue on eyes and sticks and we were challenged to make some leaf monsters. We have finished them, next week we will all have to write some sentences about them and take them home!

Some of them look too nice to be monsters:-)

Please remember to donate your pre-loved books to your Spanish friends, they will be happy to have Postman Pat, Thomas the Tank Engine or any old books you don't need! Gracias!

Next week we are celebrating Columbus Day!

Y3: Vivo en Burscough/ Columbus Day

Today we have learned to say where we live.
Vivo en Burscough.
Vivo en Southport.
Vivo en Rufford.

Now we can say 4 sentences about ourselves:
Me llamo George.
Tengo 7 años.
Soy inglés.
Vivo en Burscough.

We have written this sentence down in our Spanish books and we remembered that v is pronounced as b in Spanish, like in verde or nueve.

Today and next week we are celebrating Columbus Day. This famous explorer discovered America. His trips were paid by the Spanish King and Queen, and he had to spread Spanish and the Catholic religion to new territories.
They speak Spanish in 21 countries and we started to decorate a long bunting with the flags of these countries. We have almost finished them, next week we will hang them up.

We looked at the map of his first trip, if you want to see it again, click here.

We watched a short video and had to answer 1 question: Where does Spanish come from? The answer is: LATIN!

Don't forget we have two competitions:
1,Decorate the letter ñ , all the entries need to be in next week. The prize is a Spanish book!
2, Find "Hello" in Portuguese in the Languages of the World book, it is in the corridor!

And remember to donate your pre-loved books to our Spanish partner school's library, they will be happy to have Postman Pat, Thomas the Tank Engine or any old books you don't need! Gracias!

Friday 3 October 2014

We won a book!

I couldn't go in to school yesterday because I was too poorly, but I can't wait until next week to share the news with you: we won a book in a prize draw ! It is called The Book of Languages! It has a different language on every page, the history, a map with all the countries where they speak it and some useful expressions! How exciting! I will leave it in the corridor in the Spanish basket and I will set a challenge every week, like learn to count to 5 in Japanese or say hello in Portuguese...... :-)

See you next week!

And thank you Little Linguist:-)
